EMC Insurance Review
EMC has some pretty strong ratings all-around. Despite financial setbacks in 2008-2009, the company has since rebounded and earned an A (excellent) rating from the financial institution A.M. Best. They are an A+ accredited institution with the Better Business Bureau, and have only received 5 complaints through the BBB in the last 3 years.
Ratings Agency | Rating |
Better Business Bureau (2016) | A+ |
A.M. Best | A (Excellent) |
EMC Insurance Discounts
Some drivers may be disappointed to learn that EMC insurance products are not available in all areas. And their website doesn’t do the best job of telling potential customers where they operate; they only urge interested motorists to contact them directly to be paired with a local agent. But if they is an EMC agent near you, be sure to discuss the following discounts with them, in addition to your policy coverage options:
Discount* | Detailed Description |
Bonus Renewal Plan | Available if you insure your auto with EMC for three consecutive years; waives surcharges for your first at-fault accident |
Combination Policy Discount | Available when you insure both your auto and home with EMC |
Multi-Car Discount | Available if you insure more than one auto under the same policy |
Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) | Available to policyholders who elect to have their direct-billed policies paid monthly by EFT |
Accident-Free Discount | Rewards you for a good driving record |
Some additional discounts you may be eligible for include:
- Defensive driving discount
- Good student discount
- Antitheft device discount
- Passive restraints discount
- Antilock braking system discount
- Senior operator accident prevention course
*Certain discounts may not be available in all areas. Contact your local EMC agent for more information.
EMC Auto Insurance Options
Naturally, EMC auto policies offer basic coverage options such as Liability, Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist coverage, Collision/Comprehensive, and PIP. But even if you have a basic auto policy with EMC, you will also be covered by:
- Rental Vehicle – Pays for damage or loss of a rental vehicle that you are legally obligated to pay and for loss of use (deductible required)
- Increased Transportation Expenses – get a greater amount of financial coverage for transportation expenses incurred
- Deductible Waiver – Waives the “other than collision” deductible in the event of a total loss
- Air Bag – Reimburses the reinstallation cost of an air bag that accidentally deployed
And if you want more coverage, you can choose to add any of the following to your policy (but most likely in exchange for a higher monthly premium):
- Increased limits for excess sound reproducing equipment
- Audio, visual and data electronic equipment
- Tapes, records or other media
- Auto loan/lease
- New vehicle replacement
- Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts coverage
- Full safety glass coverage
Comparing EMC Insurance Quotes
EMC believes that the best way to offer potential customers the most accurate quote is to have them talk with an agent directly. For this reason, it can be hard to estimate what price they might offer without offering up sensitive information, like your social security number. But if you do decide to call, make sure you compare the rate they quote you with other typical rates.
The estimated rates above represent average prices across the country. Your rates may likely be different based on personal circumstances such as location, credit history, and age. But the chart above can at least help give you context as to what you should be paying.
Pros and Cons of EMC Insurance
Pro | Con |
Good customer service reputation | Only a small portion of their business is dedicated to personal auto insurance |
Strong financial rating presently | Suffered weak financial ratings in the not-too-distant past |
Not available in all areas; can be difficult to find a local agent |
EMC has a very strong presence today in the automotive insurance industry. They have rebounded from years of financial hardship and present themselves as a strong company today. EMC also promotes a culture of strong customer service which is reflected in their ratings. But it’s hard to know where or how to find an agent, since they still prefer to do most of their business in-person as opposed to offering their resources online. But if you can find an EMC agent near you, make sure to compare the quote you get with others in your area. It’s the best way to save money.
