A Brief History of the Chevrolet Tahoe

In one form or another, the Chevy Tahoe has been around since 1991. It actually debuted that year at GMC dealerships as the Yukon; it wasn’t until 1995 that Chevrolet started selling a nearly identical version of this vehicle under the name Tahoe.

This model has been so popular for so long that it is currently in its fourth generation of production. And that popularity isn’t just limited to civilian drivers on city roads, either. Some police precincts have their own fleet of Chevy Tahoe vehicles, as well as various US military bases.

Chevrolet Tahoe in the News

The early versions of the 2014 and 2015 Chevy Tahoe got off to a rocky start.

It all started on March 23rd, 2014 on a sunny day in Anaheim, California when a young couple went test-driving a new model with their sales representative, only for the joy ride to end with the vehicle bursting into flames and being completely destroyed within 15 minutes.

Luckily, all three made it out of the vehicle without injury before the SUV was consumed by the flames. Chevrolet and General Motors issued a massive recall 5 days later in order to fix an “improperly secured oil cooler line” which, if neglected, could potentially result in the engine catching fire.

Strangely enough, however, they denied that this recall had anything at all to do with the isolated incident in Anaheim, California.

Comparing Chevrolet Tahoe Auto Insurance Coverage

Regardless of how old your Chevy Tahoe is, a bigger factor that raises or lowers a driver’s monthly premium is where they live. But how much is insurance on a Tahoe?

Your home state where you do the most driving will have the most important influence on your premiums, because insurance laws vary wildly from one state to the next and also regulate how much your insurance company can charge you.

Most insurance companies break it down even further and adjust your premiums according to your local driving conditions as determined by your ZIP code.

In case you haven’t found out yet, not all insurance companies treat drivers the same way.

You could go to one insurance company that charges you 17 percent more or higher for your monthly premium based on a claim you filed a year ago, whereas the next company may be more lenient and not factor it into their overall evaluation of your risk potential.

Your insurance company’s goal is to accurately guess how likely you are to file a claim, how expensive that claim will be, and how likely it is to affect their profit margin. And they put a lot of effort into making sure their guess is as educated as possible.

But if you don’t conduct a fairly educated search for the best insurance company yourself, you’ll end up paying more in premiums than you should.

Driving a big, strong tank like the Chevy Tahoe appeals to people with families because it makes them feel safer behind the wheel, especially when they’re driving children around.

Other motorists, however, may feel that driving around town and their giant, hulking chariot of a vehicle makes them the king of the road that all other vehicles should bow down to.

Unfortunately, this mentality can lead to aggressive driving, which leads to traffic violations.

If you get caught committing too many of them (tailgating, failure to yield, unsafe lane change, etc.), Your insurance company may raise your rates based on the fact that aggressive drivers are exponentially more likely to get into an accident.
